Dear Sir,

PLANNING APPLICATION OPTION 3C REF 23/4152M – POYNTON POOL SPILLWAY

In view of the low risk that is presented by the current situation at Poynton Pool we ask that you withdraw your planning application for Option 3C and commission a new Section 10 inspection. The Environment Agency has confirmed that they would not obstruct this approach.

This will enable the proposed site investigation to be carried out whilst providing you with an opportunity to monitor the inflow, outflow, and water levels relative to rainfall.

In the meantime a flood contingency plan could be implemented to ensure reservoir safety at all times. This could encompass infilling any low spots on the crest and coring a hole through the weir wall and installing a valve to provide an emergency drawdown.

It is our position that the time constraints that are being cited by the Council and its agents are artificial insofar as there is the alternative of a new inspection. It is our interpretation that the proposed works are not required to ensure statutory compliance.

We ask you to give serious consideration to this request and enable a more informed and proportionate response to a new Section 10 inspection. Our proposal reduces risk, defers expenditure and will save the undertaker (and ultimately us the taxpayer) money. We would request that this proposal is included in the option appraisal for Poynton Pool.

Yours sincerely,

M J Ellison (Chair)
