Story
A group of locals who came together due to a shared appreciation of Poynton Park, its trees and its wildlife.
Formed in October 2022 in response to the Cheshire East Spillway Proposal. We are now an official Community Group, with a formal constitution.
Our Impact
The initial focus of Friends of Poynton Pool has been in finding an environmentally friendly alternative solution to replace the proposal put forward by Cheshire East Council to improve the Spillway at Poynton Pool (planning application reference 23/4152M).
The group has been fortunate to be joined by people with specialist professional experiences in this area. On several occasions we have attempted to meet with Cheshire East Council throughout the process.
As part of this campaign we have raised awareness throughout the local area about the plans and encouraged locals to express their opinions to both Cheshire East Council and local MP David Rutley. We have been supported by a set of volunteers to help raise awareness throughout.
As part of this campaign we have supported the community in lodging complaints about:
- the initial proposal
- the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Screening Application
- the planning application
We have also had:
- an online petition with over 5,500 objections
- a written petition signed by Cheshire East resident with over 5700 signatures
